Be prepared for some winding roads, especially as you approach Independence Pass, which is only open seasonally from late May to early October. This route provides you with unparalleled views and plenty of opportunities for photo stops. Alternatively, you can take the slightly longer but less mountainous route via the I-70 W and CO-91 S, which adds about 30 minutes to your travel time.
